A Proactive Approach for Online Course Accessibility Date: Wednesday, September 7, 2022 Guest Speaker Katherine Profeta Director of Digital Program Development and Services Indian River State College Description The U.S. Department of Education (2021) reports that 19% of undergraduates have a diagnosed disability. Accessible learning options remain critical in consideration of the growing number of students with disabilities enrolled in online courses, the evolution of assistive technologies, and the increase of online programs. Indian River State College utilized updated accessibility requirements covered by Section 508 in conjunction with the Quality Matters revised General Standard 8 of the 6th Edition Higher Education Rubric to propel their online accessibility initiative. Through this initiative, IRSC formed an accessibility workgroup and developed a strategic plan to shift from a reactive to a proactive response. Join us to learn more about IRSC’s success and how we tackled this initiative.
