Summer break's over and now we're back in school again! So why not learn some Japanese words and phrases related to school? Although it might not be the most interesting lesson for everyone, a lot of Japanese animes and dramas are set in school, so I'm sure you've heard many of these words before! And these words will be helpful if you ever get a chance to study abroad in Japan. So...happy studying!! ☺ Gakkou-School がっこう／学校 Shougakkou- Elementary School しょうがっこう／小学校 Rokunen- 6 years ろくねん／六年 Chuugakkou- Middle School ちゅうがっこう／中学校 Koukou- High school こうこう／高校 Daigaku- College だいがく／大学 Koukou 3 Nen sei- Senior in highschool こうこう３ねんせい／高校３年生 Daigakusei- College student だいがくせい／大学生 Shifuku- clothing of your choice しふく／私服 Seifuku- uniform せいふく／制服 Kamoku/Kyouka- subjects in school かもく／科目 きょうか／教科 Suugaku- Math すうがく／数学 Suugaku wa muzukashii desu- Math is hard すうがくはむずかしいです／数学は難しいです Kokugo- Literature class こくご／国語 Kokugo de hon wo yomimashita- I read a book in literature class こくごでほんをよみました／国語で本を読みました Kagaku- Science かがく／科学 Kagaku de jikken wo shimashita- I did an experiment in Science class かがくでじっけんをしました／科学で実験をしました Taiiku- Physical Education たいいく／体育 Taiiku dewa taisougi wo kimasu/You wear gym clothes in Phys Ed class たいいくではたいそうぎをきます／体育では体操着を着ます Koukou de watashi no tokui na kamoku wa bijutsu deshita- The subject I was the best at in highschool was Art. こうこうでわたしのとくいなかもくはびじゅつでした／高校で私の得意な科目は美術でした Tokui- subject you excel at とくい／得意 Soshite, negate na kamoku wa shakai deshita- And the subject I was the worst at was Social Studies. そして、にがてなかもくはしゃかいでした／そして、苦手な科目は社会でした Nigate- subject you don't excel at にがて／苦手 Houkago- afterschool ほうかご／放課後 Bukatsu- extracurricular activities ぶかつ／部活 Buin- member of a club ぶいん／部員 Watashi wa kendoubu no buin desu- I am a member of the kendo club わたしはけんどうぶのぶいんです／私は剣道部の部員です Kitakubu- people who don't participate in extra curricular activities きたくぶ／帰宅部 So use these words when you're in school to help you describe your favorite subjects and those you might not enjoy as much! -------------------------------------------- Please stay tuned and subscribe for future episodes!
