The court has ordered a new trial. The state Court of Appeals said the trial judge made a critical mistake by allowing prosecutors to present testimony from women who accused Weinstein of assaults, even though they were not part of the charges he faced. In 2020, the 72-year-old disgraced Hollywood producer was convicted and sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexually assaulting a former production assistant in 2006, and raping an aspiring actress in 2013.
